Waterlooville Golf Club

Waterlooville Golf Club was founded with 35 members as a nine hole course in 1907 when a group of gentlemen met with the aim of forming a golf club in the area. The entrance fee was £1 and the annual subscription £1.10s. The course was not extended to 18 holes until 1962. The present golf course was designed in 1976 by Henry Cotton, when the new A3(M) motorway was built, slicing much of the east side of the old course away. Henry Cotton was well deserving of his place amongst the golfing greats, and of his nickname the ‘Maestro’. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1980 and Knighted in 1987. He won the Open 3 times – at Royal St George’s in 1934, Carnoustie in 1937 and Muirfield in 1948.
