‘Fish the pool down hard for about 50 yards,’ my host had told me. ‘There’s a bit right at the bottom that sometimes holds a fish, but it’s only worth a couple of casts.’
I fished the main pool and didn’t get a sniff. Again I went into the unproductive water, and immediately had a savage take on the Cascade, the fish racing off towards the foot bridge at Aberlour. Unfortunately, that was the last I saw of it, because we parted company just after the backing appeared through the top ring, so my hopes of a hat-trick in the day from unpromising lies were dashed.
