Mike was an excellent fisherman under UK conditions, having caught countless trout and at least his fair share of salmon. In preparation for the Cuba trip, he had also done some saltwater training on bass, garfish and mackerel, so he was used to wading in the sea and casting at visual marine targets, even if the temperature had been slightly more conducive to neoprene chest waders than shorts and sand shoes.
