The peculiar antics of the salmon changed yet again. It stopped dead and became a solid weight, just sitting in the current near the far bank beyond the dogleg. Michael tried to prise it closer but it simply stayed there, unmoving, for a good half minute, feeling more like a big spring salmon now than a grilse.
The fish moved again, but this time it was a much steadier, more measured run. It came left, the line sliding across the top of the water, slicing through the surface like a cheese cutter and shooting spray into the air. It kept coming and Michael star
