Jackson continued to catch fish all morning. He seemed instinctively to know where the best lies were, and as often as not a fish would be hooked. The other remarkable thing was how few fish he lost. As unlikely as it seemed, the short-line policy seemed to work. They were hooked, played, netted and killed in as quick a time as Murdo had ever witnessed. Major Jackson was more like a fish merchant than an angler; he seemed interested only in the money he would make down in London, rather than any pleasure he was gaining from his sport.

John took out his hip flask and poured a few drops of whisky into the water. ‘I name this place the CBA Pot.’ Robin’s frown deepened. ‘CBA?’ ‘Can’t Be Arsed,’ said John.
